• Canton Historical Museum - Miscellaneous exhibits relative to the local area. Information: 646-3412

Maggie Valley

• Lindsey Gardens, Miniature Village, Mini-Apolis Grand Prix Park - A variety of buildings set amid a very attractive garden. An added attraction is their 1/12th scale train which chugs throughout the garden. Some amusements are included such as race tracks and bumper boats for the kids, a gem mine, mini-golf course and game room. A small grill and dairy bar are available to keep you from starving. • Soco Gardens Zoo - Includes petting zoo, snake show and guided tours. Information: 926-1746.

• Wheels Through Time Museum - Displayed is a broad assortment of vehicles, including motorcycles. The museum is open year-round, 7 days a week, from 9a to 6p except durn December through March when it opens at 10a and closes at 5p - and is closed all day Wednesdays. • Mountain Skating Center. Information: 456-4441

• The Little Gallery on Church Street - art gallery features the works of regional visual artists. Located in the hall gallery just outside the Haywood County Arts Council office at 37 Church Street.

• The Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts (Shelton House) - exhibiting 19th Century handicrafts including baskets, pottery and quilts. Information: 452-1551.

Historic Sites

• Cataloochee Valley - northwest of Maggie Valley, actually inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, when the original community was dismantled selected buildings were saved to be preserved as a museum of a late 1800s - early 1900s village. The site includes a primitive campground plus several excellent hiking trails.

• Ghost Town in the Sky - replica of an old-time western town. Admission fee includes an array of amusements. Seasonal. Information: 926.1140.
